Van-Packer’s Model GRZ Grease Duct

There are more than 8,240 reported fires in restaurants every year, and most of those fires begin in the kitchen. The GRZ can suppress fires inside the grease duct and withstand fire externally at extreme temperatures.

Engineered Energy Equipment is proud to represent the Van-Packer Model GRZ, the 1st rectangular grease duct system that has successfully been tested, passed, listed, and labeled to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards for fire resistant, grease duct enclosure assemblies. Model GRZ is an industry leader for double-wall, prefabricated grease duct systems.

The Model GRZ

The GRZ is a zero-clearance grease duct for any kitchen application from industrial to commercial. It’s also the first rectangular grease duct to pass the UL 2221 / ULC S144. Other benefits the GRZ has over traditional black iron grease ducts are:

Zero-Clearance Capability

There never seems to be enough room in a commercial kitchen. As a zero-clearance grease duct, the GRZ can be stored right up against combustibles, as long as there is ventilation in an open (not enclosed) space.

Customization

Every kitchen and space are different. With a customizable size at a 6:1 aspect ratio and the ability to mix round and rectangular parts, the GRZ is incredibly flexible for any space.

Two-Hour Fire Resistance Rating and Reduced Labor Required

With a two-hour fire rating, the GRZ can suppress fires inside the duct and withstand fire externally at extreme temperatures. It also doesn’t require field welding, reducing installation labor and costs.

Product features and benefits:

According to Van-Packer’s National Sales Manager Adam Habegger, the delivery turn around time is 15-20 working days.

First established in 1944, Van-Packer’s business is all about improving systems to ensure their customers have up-to-code, functional designs at competitive prices. And with their new patent on the GRZ rectangular duct, they are at the cutting edge of kitchen solutions and grease duct safety capabilities.

Not only is kitchen grease highly flammable, it creates less than optimal breathing conditions; ask the chefs who are exposed to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), an air pollutant that is a concern for people’s health when levels in the air are high. PM2.5 are tiny particles in the air that reduce visibility and cause the air to appear hazy when levels are elevated.

Our next Boilerman Blog will feature some important considerations for air quality in commercial kitchens from one of our our professional associations, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
